A Trai app will soon allow customers to check internet speed on mobile phones
The telecom regulator will launch the service for Android and iOS platforms next month, and users will be able to identify the best network in their locality.
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India is set to launch an app next month, with which users can identify the best network in their area. The mobile app will run in the background to measure the speed of internet on cell phones and send data to a portal. The application will let customers see the performance of operators in terms of speed, the Business Standard reported.
The Trai app will be available on Android and iOS phones. It is a crowdsourcing scheme to test how the networks of all mobile operators perform, a Trai official said. While Bharti Airtel recently launched Open Network – its initiative through which users can see the network’s parameters – other operators have yet to introduce such services.
Trai Secretary Sudhir Gupta presented the app to representatives of service providers in a meeting last week. On June 1, the telecom operator launched an app with which customers can register complaints against unwanted telemarketing calls and SMSes.
