Indian men's hockey team climb to fifth spot in world rankings
This is their highest ranking since 2009.
The Indian men's hockey team climbed to No 5 in the International Hockey Federation's World Rankings, buoyed by a good show at the Champions Trophy tournament in June earlier this year. This is their highest ranking in the last seven years.
"I am really proud of the team to have come such a long way from where we were in such a short span of time. However, there is still a long way to go and all I tell the players is to keep the focus intact on the greater goal that is to reclaim the glory of Indian hockey," said Mohammad Mushtaque Ahmed, the secretary general of Hockey India in a release.
India won silver in the Champions Trophy in June, their best ever result in the tournament. They are currently participating in the Six Nations Tournament in Valencia.
