Cabinet reshuffle: Prakash Javadekar gets HRD Ministry, Smriti Irani moved to textiles
MJ Akbar will be Minister of State, External Affairs, and Venkaiah Naidu is the new Minister of Information and Broadcasting.
In a massive Cabinet reshuffle that was announced on Tuesday, Prakash Javadekar, who was promoted to Cabinet minister earlier in the day, was made Minister of Human Resource and Development. Smriti Irani lost her HRD portfolio and was given the Textiles Ministry, while MJ Akbar was made Minister of State, External Affairs.
Jayant Sinha was dropped from the Finance Ministry and moved to the Ministry of Civil Aviation. The Information and Broadcasting ministry was given to Venkaiah Naidu, who was earlier Parliamentary Affairs Minister. Arun Jaitley held the I&B portfolio before Naidu. Vijay Goel was made the new sports minister, replacing Sarbananda Sonowal who was recently made chief minister of Assam. Ravi Shankar Prasad was removed from the Information Technology Ministry and will head the Law and Justice ministry.
Ananth Kumar replaced Naidu as Parliamentary Affairs Minister. Santosh Kumar Gangwar was made MoS, Finance, Hansraj Gangaram MoS, Home Affairs, and Ramesh Chandappa Jigajinagi the Drinking Water and Sanitation Minister. Anupriya Patel and Faggan Singh Kulaste were made MoS, Health and Family Welfare, and Ajay Tamta MoS, Textiles.
Anil Madhav Dave replaced Javadekar as Environment Minister, Sadananda Gowda got Statistics and Programme Implementation, and SS Ahluwalia was made the MoS, Agriculture and Farmers Welfare. Ramdas Athawale was made Social Justice Minister, and Arjun Ram Meghwal is the new MoS, Finance and Corporate Affairs.
