The Centre has authorised a team of National Security Guard personnel to head to Dhaka to “analyse and study” the attack at an Eid gathering on Thursday as well as last week’s siege at a café. Bangladesh’s Special Forces also approved India’s request to visit the locations of the attacks to gain “first-hand understanding of the situation”, officials said.

The NSG squad wants to work alongside its Bangladeshi equivalent to gather information on the two incidents. Officials said this will help improve cooperation between the two neighbouring countries to fight terrorism, PTI reported. The team heading to Bangladesh will include experts in counter-terror measures and those well-versed with analysing situations after explosions. It will reportedly be in Dhaka this weekend.

Earlier today, at least three people were killed and more than 10 injured after crude bombs exploded near an Eid congregation at Sholakia Eidgah Maidan in Bangladesh’s Kishoreganj area, about 100 km from Dhaka.

On July 2, militants took several hostages at a popular restaurant in a diplomatic area in the Bangladeshi capital. While 13 hostages were rescued, 20 people were killed before security forces gunned down six assailants and captured the seventh alive. The Islamic State claimed responsibility for the siege, but the government said local banned outfit Jamaat-ul-Mujahdeen was behind it.
