Defending champions and top seeds Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis were eliminated from Wimbledon after losing 2-6 4-6 to the Hungarian-Kazakhstani pair of Timea Babos and Yaroslava Shvedova in London on Thursday.
Hingis and Mirza crumbled to a 2-6 loss in the first set, making too many unforced errors. They fought back to win the next three games, but their opponents held on to win the second set 4-6.
In the women's singles, World No 1 Serena Williams progressed to the final with minimal effort, defeating the unseeded Elena Vesnina 6-2 6-0 in the semi-final. Williams will meet either the Australian Open champion Angelique Kerber in the final after Kerber defeated William's sister Venus Williams 6-4 6-4 in the other semi-final.
