CCTV shows Rajasthan MLA's son drinking, driving, which he denied after accident that killed three
Siddharth Maharai was seen getting into the driver's seat before his speeding BMW collided with an autorickshaw.
A closed-circuit television footage shows that Rajasthan MLA Nand Kishor Maharia's son Siddharth, who allegedly crashed into an autorickshaw and killed three people at the spot in Jaipur on July 2, was drinking at a bar before the incident. Police said that in more footage from a hotel, it is clear that Siddharth Maharia – who had earlier claimed that he was neither driving the BMW when the accident took place nor was he drunk – was behind the wheels.
Siddharth Maharia and two others had reportedly been bar-hopping since 6.15pm. According to NDTV, the police said the video will strengthen their case against the 20-year-old son of the Sikar (Fatehpur) MLA.
Meanwhile, magistrates at a local court extended Siddharth Maharia's police remand by another day. The MLA's son was booked under Section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the Indian Penal Code.
On July 2, the speeding BMW that belonged to the MLA first collided with an autorickshaw and then rammed into a Police Control Room van. Four people were injured, including an assistant superintendent of police. While the three-wheeler was completely mangled, the luxury car suffered a big dent in the front.
