Air India on Sunday announced that passengers with an unconfirmed ticket on four Rajdhani Express routes – Delhi-Mumbai, Delhi-Chennai, Delhi-Bengaluru, Delhi-Kolkata and vice-versa – can fly to their destination at the price of an AC II tier berth. The national carrier will offer unsold seats on these routes four hours prior to departure, reported PTI.

Air India Chairman and Managing Director Ashwani Lohani said their aim was to provide relief to the passengers from last minute sky-rocketing fares and also to fill the vacant seats. At present, a seat in the Rajdhani AC II tier on the Delhi-Mumbai route costs Rs 2,870, Delhi-Bengaluru is available for Rs 4,020, Delhi-Chennai is priced at Rs 3,905 and Delhi-Kolkata is Rs 2,890. Hindustan Times reported that the tickets could be booked on the AI website or at its airport counter.

In June, Air India had floated a limited period Super Saver scheme for Rajdhani passengers who had unconfirmed AC first class tickets. Such passengers could fly by Air India without paying extra. The offer was also made available to AC II tier passengers, but they had to pay Rs 1,500-Rs 2,000 in addition to the train fare.

Meanwhile, Air India has also temporarily waived ticket cancellation or rescheduling fees for travel to and from Kashmir. A company spokesperson said the step was taken keeping in mind the present situation in the valley that has been witnessing violence since Friday over the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Muzaffar Wani.

Jet Airways too has announced that it would allow fliers to re-book their tickets without any charges, reported Indian Express. At present, all domestic airlines charge up to Rs 2,000 for ticket cancellation and rescheduling.
