Nine killed in heavy downpour in Uttarakhand, more rain expected over next 24 hours
The Badrinath pilgrimage was also disrupted as major rivers including the Ganga flowed above the danger limit.
Heavy rains in Uttarakhand have killed at least nine people, and left most major roads in the state blocked. The Badrinath pilgrimage has also been hit, while major rivers are flowing over the danger limit, reports said. The Meteorological department said the state capital had received 26.2 mm of rain in 24 hours, between Friday and Saturday.
The Met department also predicted heavy rain across the state for the next 24 hours, especially in Pithoragarh, Uttarkashi, Chamoli and Rudraprayag districts. Earlier this month, a cloudburst in the state killed more than a dozen people and caused flashfloods and landslides.
