The Supreme Court on Tuesday said that if a convict is given multiple life imprisonment sentences, they will run simultaneously and not consecutively. A petition was filed with the five-judge Constitution Bench, asking whether multiple life sentences would run concurrently or consecutively.

The Constitution Bench, headed by Chief Justice TS Thakur, ruled that courts can award a term sentence along with life imprisonment concurrently, reported PTI. In such cases, the convict will be asked to first undergo his/her term sentence and then the life sentence.
