Seven Bajrang Dal members arrested in Karnataka for attacking Dalit family over cow slaughter claims
Local police had earlier filed a case against three members of the family for allegedly stealing and butchering a cow.
Seven members of Bajrang Dal were arrested on Sunday for attacking a Dalit family in Karnataka's Chikmangluru district on suspicion of cooking beef. More than 30 members of the right-wing organisation had reportedly beaten up the family on July 17, according to NDTV. They were charged under the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Amendment Act.
Local police had earlier filed a case against three members of the family for alleged cattle theft and cow slaughter. But the family registered a counter-FIR against the Bajrang Dal members for raiding their house and assaulting them. Superintendent of Police Santosh Babu said they are investigating both cases and will file a chargesheet soon, The Indian Express reported.
