Shah Rukh Khan gets notice from I-T department, asked to reveal offshore assets
The move comes as the government is seeking information on overseas investments as part of its drive to flush out black money holders.
The Income Tax Department has sent a notice to Shah Rukh Khan asking the actor to disclose all his offshore investments, The Economic Times reported. Officials reportedly sought details on his assets in places like Bermuda, Dubai and the British Virgin Islands. The I-T department’s move comes as the government is cracking down on black money holders. However, the report said there is no information on whether officials have any evidence against Khan.
The government in June had launched its Income Declaration Scheme, giving black money holders a four-month window to declare their assets. These black money holders will have up to September 2017 to pay taxes on their assets. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has repeatedly urged people to declare their black money, while Prime Minister Narendra Modi also warned of action against those who do not declare their assets by September 30.
