Government is looking into Andhra Pradesh's demand for special category status, says Arun Jaitley
The Union finance minister's response came after members of YSR Congress and the Telugu Desam Party raised slogans in the Lok Sabha regarding the issue.
The National Democratic Alliance government at the Centre is looking into Andhra Pradesh's demand for the special category status, Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley told the Lok Sabha members on Tuesday. "Some members have concerns over particular issues. Government stands by its commitment. We are trying to find a solution to these issues," the minister said.
His response came to sloganeering by members of the Telugu Desam Party and the Yuvajana, Sramika, Rythu (YSR) Congress in the House regarding the issue, reported PTI. However, the agitating legislators demanded a timeline for the resolving the matter. The Assembly proceedings were adjourned twice earlier in the day because of the issue.
On the same day, a statewide bandh called by YSR Congress, and supported by the Congress and the Left, brought the state to a standstill. The police arrested several protesting party workers while educational institutions, banks and commercial establishments remained shut for the day, the news agency reported.
