Former Superintendent of Police in Gurdaspur, Salwinder Singh, was booked for sexual harassment following a departmental inquiry into a complaint made against him. The senior police official, who was earlier questioned by the National Investigation Agency in connection with the Pathankot attacks, was also moved out of Gurdaspur after complaints made by women officers who worked under him, The Indian Express reported.

The police investigation found that Singh demanded sexual favours from the wife of a man accused of rape. He also asked for Rs 50,000 to clear the man’s name, a police official told The Indian Express. The officer added that there was evidence against Singh, who is now posted in Jalandhar.

Singh was booked under Section 376 C (sexual intercourse by person in authority who abuses his position to induce or seduce a woman) of IPC and provisions of Prevention of Corruption Act.

In January, Singh had claimed his cook and a friend were abducted along with him by the terrorists who had attacked the Pathankot air base. The militants had used his car to enter the Air Force base, close to the India-Pakistan border, on January 2. Seven security personnel died in the attack.
