Girl students of Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology, Bhopal, on Friday hit the streets and raised slogans against "gender discriminatory" hostel rules, dress code and hostel timings. According to a notice issued on June 28, girls were asked to enter hostel by 9.30 pm and not to wear shorts and skirts on campus. However, the second directive was dropped after students protested, ANI reported.

The girls vehemently opposed the hostel deadline and said why such restrictions were not imposed on boys. One student, Harsha, told ANI, "We are forced to sleep in the lobby if we don’t make it to the hostel by 9.30 pm." Regarding the dress code, another student questioned the diktat. "Why should we listen to others? Why shouldn’t we wear shorts?"
