Luku Sanyal, pioneer in English news in Mumbai, dies at 75
The popular Doordarshan anchor had been admitted to a hospital in the city's Andheri suburb.
Luku Sanyal, pioneer in English news in Mumbai, died at an Andheri hospital on Sunday. She was 75.
Known for her impeccable diction and voice, the Doordarshan anchor had been in plays on All India Radio Kolkata since she was 13. She shot to fame after she was chosen to share a panel with eminent theatre personalities – Dolly Thakore, Partap Sharma, Gerson DaCunha and Nirmala Matthan – as a newsreader for a Mumbai-based English channel.
Sanyal was a trained Kathak and Bharatnatyam dancer as well. She is survived by her daughter Shona.
