The apex court bench, instead, asked the state government to investigate the allegation and submit a report on August 12.
The Supreme Court on Tuesday ruled against the arrest of Srinagar Deputy Superintendent of Police accused of killing a youth protesting the death of Hizbul Mujahideen chief Burhan Wani, reported The Tribune. A Bench comprising Justices PC Ghose and Amitava Roy, instead, asked the state government to investigate the complaint and submit a report in the case on August 12.
The Mehooba Mufti government had moved the Supreme Court seeking a stay in the criminal case proceedings apprehending arrest of DSP Yasir Qadri. Father of Shabir Ahmad Mir, who was killed on July 10, had filed a complaint against Qadri, on the basis of which the Jammu and Kashmir High Court ordered a First Information Report to be registered against the senior police officer. According to the 26-year-old's family, Qadri and his team entered their house and assaulted Mir's mother, reported The Indian Express. When he intervened, the police officer allegedly shot him dead.
