Olympics: Sania Mirza and Rohan Bopanna ease through to the mixed doubles quarterfinals
The Indian pair won their Round of 16 match in straight sets.
The Indian mixed doubles pair, 4th seeds Sania Mirza and Rohan Bopanna, defeated unseeded Samantha Stosur and John Peers of Australia 7-5, 6-4 to progress to the quarterfinals of the mixed doubles tennis competition at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.
The duo did it without much fuss, breaking Stosur's serve with the first set evenly poised at 5-5, after which Bopanna held his serve for the Indians to win the first set.
In the second set, it was Peers who was broken with the score at 2-2. Mirza-Bopanna held on to that break to win the set and, thus, the match in straight sets.
The Indian pair served big compared to their Australian counterparts, sending down seven aces to their opponent's four.
They will now face Britain's Andy Murray and Heather Watson for a place in the semifinals. Mirza and Bopanna are the only seeds remaining in the competition, but a team with Murray will be a formidable one.
