The Kerala Police on Tuesday launched the Pink Police Patrol, an initiative to promote women's safety in Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan inaugurated the service. The state has allotted five pink vehicles to the new contingent, three of which have been deployed in Thiruvananthapuram and two in Kochi. The team will be available through a phone-in service on 1515.

A Pramod Kumar, coordinator of the Pink Police Patrol and control room assistant commissioner, said, “It is the general belief that blue is for boys and pink is for girls, so we have named the initiative Pink Police Patrol".

Kumar said the teams will monitor crowded areas from 8 am to 8 pm. “As of now, 20 to 25 women officers will be deployed through the service every day. The officers will respond to all crimes against women in public places," Kumar said.
