1991 Kalyan station blast convict arrested in Punjab's Phagwara nine years after he jumped parole
Ravinder Singh and two others were found in possession of 300 g of heroin during a routine drill in the state's Maheru village.
The Punjab Police have arrested a 1991 Kalyan station blast convict, who had skipped parole nine years ago, after they found him involved in a heroin racket at Phagwara, The Times of India reported. Singh, who is also known as Sarwan, was among three people arrested for possession in the drug bust. He is reportedly linked to the banned outfit Babbar Khalsa.
Singh was found guilty of placing a bomb on a VT-Ambarnath Mumbai local, which led to the death of 12 people and injured 65 others on November 8, 1991. He has been on the run since 2007.
On Sunday, Singh was arrested under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, during a routine drill in Maheru village. He and the others were found in possession of 300 g of heroin, The Indian Express reported. Police officials said they grew suspicious when he disclosed his name as Swaran Singh and learned that he had been living under a fake name.
