Four arrested for attacking Ghaziabad BJP leader Brijbal Teotia
The police said the AK-47 ambush was an attempt at avenging a murder that took place 17 years ago, though his name had been cleared in the case.
Four people were arrested on Wednesday in connection with the attack on Bharatiya Janata Party leader Brijbal Teotia, whose car was ambushed and attacked by a group of AK-47-wielding gunmen last week. While the main accused in the case is still missing, the four arrested have been identified as Nishant alias Jeetu Bhadoria, Rahul Tyagi, Ram Kumar and Jitendra, according to The Indian Express.
The police said the assailants were hitmen hired by the family of one Suresh Dewan from Mehrauli, who had been murdered in 1999. Dewan’s sons and nephews believed Teotia was behind the murder, though his name had been cleared during investigations. Teotia was a police constable at the time. A First Information Report has been filed under various sections of the Indian Penal Code. The police have also recovered two cell phones and a car.
Teotia was attacked on August 11. The police said the attackers fired dozens of rounds from their AK-47s at Brijpal Teotia and his aides, who were returning in two Scorpio SUVs, after attending a function. He sustained five bullet injuries, and two of his associates were also critically injured. Teotia had contested the Assembly elections for the BJP in 2012.
