The 61-year-old actor was selected for the prestigious award for his artistic excellence and distinguished career achievements.
The French government will confer the Chevalier de L'Ordre Arts et Lettres (The Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters) award to actor Kamal Haasan, reported The Hindu. This will be the actor’s second French award. Earlier in March, he received the Henri Langlois Award for his contribution to Indian cinema.
The 61-year-old actor issued a statement, confirming confirming the development. The statement read, "The distinction, which is yet another laurel for the actor, is in recognition of his high level of artistic excellence and his distinguished career achievements."
The Order, which is a part of the Legion of Honor, has three ranks – chevalier (knight), officier (officer) and commandeur (commander) – and two high offices. Other Indian actors who have received the coveted award include Amitabh Bachchan, Nandita Das, Sivaji Ganesan, Aishwarya Rai and Shah Rukh Khan.
