Rape case filed against JNU student for assaulting PhD scholar
All-India Students' Association activist Anmol Ratan drugged the woman's drink before raping her in the boys' hostel, according to her complaint.
A Jawaharlal Nehru University student allegedly raped a first-year PhD scholar of the varsity in the boys' hostel on Saturday. The Vasant Kunj (North) Police registered a case on the matter against All-India Students' Association activist Anmol Ratan after the 28-year-old rape survivor lodged a complaint on Sunday, reported PTI.
In her complaint, the woman said Ratan had contacted her after she had posted a message on her Facebook profile in June asking whether anyone had a copy of the movie Sairat, reported The Indian Express. He picked her up from her hostel on Saturday to give her the CD of the film and took her to Brahamputra Hostel where he allegedly offered her a spiked drink and then raped her. The police told PTI that he also threatened her with dire consequences if she reported the matter.
Ratan was expelled from the students' association, which later issued a statement condemning the incident. AISA Delhi Secretary Ashutosh Kumar said, "We stand by the complainant in her fight for justice and will extend all possible support to her."
