Apple sued for defective touchscreens in iPhone 6 models
The lawsuit alleged the company was aware of the problem but has refused to fix it in the handsets affected.
Apple Inc was sued for a design defect that made touchscreens of iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus models unresponsive. Owners of the defective phone models filed a nationwide class-action lawsuit in San Jose, California, Reuters reported. The lawsuit alleged that the company has been aware of the defect for a while but has refused to repair phones that have it.
"This action arises from Apple’s concealment of a material design defect that causes the touchscreens on the iPhones to become unresponsive and fail for their essential purpose as smartphones," the complaint said.
The company sold more iPhones than was expected in the quarter that ended June 30, even though overall sales dropped for the quarter. Apple Inc sold 166.4 million iPhones in the first nine months of this fiscal year, the report added.
