Navjot Singh Sidhu forms Aawaaz-e-Punjab party along with Pargat Singh, Bains brothers
His wife Navjot Kaur Sidhu, a BJP lawmaker, said she will resign after her term is over if the party decides to continue its alliance with SAD in the state.
Cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu on Friday formed a new political party in Punjab – Aawaaz-e-Punjab – along with Pargat Singh and the Bains brothers. His wife, Navjot Kaur Sidhu, said the outfit will work for the benefit of the state and against those who harm it, ANI reported. The party will be officially launched on September 9, according to NDTV.
About the new party, Navjot Singh said, "I don't even know if its the 4th front, I just know these are 4 good people who want to work for Punjab." Navjot Kaur, who is a Bharatiya Janata Party lawmaker, said she will resign from the party after the completion of her term if the saffron party decides to continue with their alliance with the Shiromani Akali Dal. The poster of the newly floated party that she shared on facebook read the front will "raise its voice against those who have destroyed Punjab". Balwinder Singh Bains and Simarjit Singh Bains are independent MLAs, while Pargat Singh is a hockey player turned politician.
There had been speculation over whether Sidhu would continue to be a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party and would join Aam Aadmi Party since he resigned as a Rajya Sabha MP on July 18. The 53-year-old had said he had stepped down as he had been asked to stay away from Punjab. However, AAP chief and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday said the former parliamentarian had not put forward any pre-conditions for joining the party.
