Former Congress leader Jagmeet Brar offers 'unconditional support' to AAP in Punjab
His Lokhit Abhiyan will back the Arvind Kejriwal-led party on various issues, but is unlikely to join it in an alliance.
Former Congress leader Jagmeet Singh Brar on Tuesday offered his “unconditional support” to the Aam Aadmi Party’s campaign in Punjab ahead of Assembly elections in the state. While the details remain unclear, it appears that Brar’s Lokhit Abhiyan will back AAP on various issues during the 2017 polls. AAP’s Punjab affairs head Sanjay Singh said it is not an official alliance.
According to The Times of India, Brar said that he wanted to ensure that votes did not get divided during the elections rued that there was no “planned approach to development” in the state. Brar left the Congress after disagreeing with the party on several fronts. NDTV reported that Brar was asked to leave after he criticised Amarinder Singh, the Congress’ chief ministerial candidate in the state. He has also been a vocal critic of current chief minister Parkash Singh Badal and his family, who have been at the forefront of Punjab’s politics.
