Do not use or charge the Samsung Galaxy Note7 on board an aircraft, says aviation regulator
The advisory was issued following reports that certain handsets had exploded because of defective batteries.
Fliers have been advised not to use or charge the Samsung Galaxy Note7 phone on board an aircraft over fears that it might explode. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation issued an advisory to the effect on Friday. On the same day, American aviation authorities also imposed a similar restriction on the use of the particular Samsung model inside a flight, reported Independent. Australia was the first country to ban the use of the phone inside an aircraft. Japan has also issued a similar advisory.
Director General of Civil Aviation BS Bhullar said notice was sent out after "recent incidents involving a battery issue with Samsung about its Galaxy Note7 devices". The DGCA has also asked people not to put the phone in checked baggage, according to The Hindu. However, the model has not been banned from aircraft.
On September 2, Samsung announced the global recall of the model following reports that some handsets had exploded because of defective batteries.
