Arvind Kejriwal vows to put Akali Dal leaders in jail if AAP comes to power in Punjab
The Delhi chief minister released a 31-point farmers' manifesto on the last day of his visit to the state.
Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal, on Sunday, announced that Shiromani Akali Dal leaders Tota Singh, Kairon, Majithia and Sukhbir Singh Badal would be put behind bars for "years of misgovernance", if his party comes to power in Punjab, ANI reported. Kejriwal was addressing farmers at Moga as part of his four-day visit to the state. He also released a 31-point manifesto for farmers at the event.
Kejriwal said, "In the past 10-15 years, famers of Punjab have suffered a lot because of the Badals, Captain Amarinder, Akali Dal, the BJP and Congress governments. They are committing suicide." Kejriwal said those who provoked these suicides would not be spared and cased would be filed against them.Kejriwal also reiterated an older allegation against Shiromani Akali Dal leader Majithia for promoting drug trafficking. Majithia had filed a defamation case against Kejriwal in May for the same claims.
Among the promises made in the manifesto is the revival of the irrigation system, an "Atta Dal scheme" and life imprisonment for those supplying spurious pesticides and insecticides. During his visit to Amritsar two days ago, Kejriwal had vowed to ban the sale and consumption of alcohol, meat and tobacco near the Golden Temple. He also promised to declare Anandpur Sahib, "the birth place of the Khalsa, as a holy city".
Kejriwal's visit follows a controversy that engulfed the party after AAP removed its Punjab unit convener, Sucha Singh Chhotepur, from his post following allegations that he had accepted a bribe. Last week, AAP MLA Devinder Sherawat accused party leaders in Punjab of seeking sexual favours from women in return for election tickets.
