Lok Sabha member from Srinagar-Budgam constituency and senior leader of the People's Democratic Party, Tariq Hameed Karra, on Thursday resigned from the party as well as the Parliament, reported ANI. According to reports, the move was made in order to formally lodge his dissatisfaction with the current alliance between the PDP and Bharatiya Janata Party in Jammu and Kashmir.

He said, “The PDP has become a collaborator for fascist Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh-governed BJP.” The MP has time and again voiced his protest against the ongoing crisis in the Valley, reported the Kashmir Observer. Last month, he had said, “As and when I would feel that all other available means have failed in restoring peace and tranquility in the state, I would not hesitate to quit as Member of Parliament.”

Elected to the Lok Sabha in 2014, Karra had called the PDP-BJP alliance “an unnatural” one, reported Mail Today. However, there are reports that other PDP members are also unhappy with Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti’s handling of the crisis, which has been going on since July 8 after Hizbul Mujahideen commader Burhan Wani was gunned down. PDP legislator from North Kashmir Muzaffer Baig had said that Mufti should quit if she feels she cannot handle the situation. According to Karra, the PDP has “betrayed the people” by allying with the BJP.
