The US is still uncomfortable with powerful women, says Barack Obama
The president tore into Republican candidate Donald Trump's campaign, describing it as a 'reality show'.
United States President Barack Obama on Sunday said America has not yet been able to elect a women president because it was not comfortable with powerful women. He told the audience at a fundraising event in New York, "We as a society still grapple with what it means to see powerful women. And it still troubles us in a lot of ways, unfairly. And that expresses itself in all sorts of ways."
The president said though the race between Hillary Clinton and Republican businessman Donald Trump should never have been a tight one, the underlining "sexism in the society" may affect the former secretary of state's presidential run. The outgoing president, who is currently endorsing Clinton, was speaking to a group of donors in New York.
Obama also tore into Trump's presidential campaign, describing it as an "infomercial" and "reality show". He said, "This guy is unqualified to be president and he shows no interest in even gaining the rudimentary knowledge required to make really hard decisions on a day-to-day basis." He criticised the business tycoon's proposed policies as something that will "divide us rather then bring us together".
During the event, the 65 donors contributed $25,000. The co-chairs pooled in $100,000, the chairs raised $250,000, reported CNN.
