India successfully test-fired surface-to-air missile 'Barak-8' from the Integrated Test Range in Chandipur, Odisha, on Tuesday, reported ANI. The long-range nuclear capable ballistic missile was jointly developed with Israel.

The missile can carry a payload of 70 kilograms, and weighs around 3 tonnes. The 4.5-metre missile has a Multi-Functional Surveillance and Threat Alert Radar for detection, tracking and guidance. It was successfully tested three times before – twice on June 30, and once on July 31.

The local administration made arrangements to temporarily shift 3,700 people living in the the radius of 2.5 kilometres around the site in the state's Balasore district. They had also asked local fishermongers to stay away from the sea during the time of launch.
