Stop offering Pakistan advice, find solutions to end militant attacks: Mayawati tells Narendra Modi
The BSP chief accused the prime minister of trying to divert the public's attention from his government's shortfalls by making speeches targeting Islamabad.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi should focus on finding solutions to attacks like the one on the Indian Army's Uri base instead of offering Pakistan advice, said Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati on Sunday. She accused Modi of trying to divert the public's attention from his government's shortfalls with his address targeting Islamabad, ANI reported.
Mayawati said Modi had failed to gain the trust of the masses with his assurances that Uri-like attacks will not occur again. She said, "Instead of finding a long-term solution to the problem, our prime minister is distracting people by making such speeches." The BSP chief urged the prime minister to focus on what his government has done for the public in terms of development.
Earlier, the Congress had said the attack in Kashmir's Uri sector was a consequence of a "massive operational and intelligence failure" and had demanded that Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval be held accountable. The party had advised the government to initiate a strategy that would include "diplomatic isolation, imposition of economic sanctions and a resolute strategic response", The Indian Express reported. The Janata Dal (United) had demanded Parrikar and Doval's resignations.
Modi's address to Bharatiya Janata Party workers in Kerala came a day after he said one nation was responsible for spreading terrorism in Asia. The prime minister said Pakistan could not handle its own regions like Baloch and Gilgit but attempted to interfere with India's policy regarding Jammu and Kashmir. Relations between New Delhi and Islamabad have worsened since the attack in Uri, with both sides accusing one another of interfering in the other's policies.
