Cricket: Bhuvneshwar Kumar takes five wickets as New Zealand struggle at 128/7 on Day 2
India was bowled out for 316 in the first innings as the Kiwis are 188 runs behind.
India’s Bhuvneshwar Kumar took five wickets to dismantle the New Zealand batting lineup on Day Two of the second Test at Eden Gardens, Kolkata on Saturday. India were bowled out for 316 after Wriddhiman Saha took the score past 300 with his unbeaten knock of 54.
New Zealand were stunned early on with Mohammed Shami dismissing Tom Latham for just 1, and Kumar destroying Martin Guptill's stumps when the batsman was at 13. Struggling at 21/2 at lunch, captain Ross Taylor and Henry Nicholls needed to get a partnership going. However, after lunch, Nicholls was dismissed by Kumar. Ross Taylor and Luke Ronchi then built a 62-run partnership for the fourth wicket. However, Ronchi fell to Ravindra Jadeja on 35 just before the rain played spoilsport and took away some game time.
As play began in the final hour, Kumar took three quick wickets to see the Kiwis at 128/7, trailing by 188 runs. Kumar dismissed Taylor, who was on 36, followed by back-to-back wickets of Mitchell Santner and Matt Henry.
