The body of Dadri lynching accused, Ravin Sisodia, was cremated on Friday, after his family and residents of Bishada village struck a deal with the local administration, The Indian Express reported. The 21-year-old reportedly died on Wednesday of kidney and respiratory failure at a Delhi hospital, but his family accused jail authorities of assault. His family refused to cremate his body, wrapped in the Indian tricolour in a freezer casket, till the district administration agreed to their four demands.

According to The Indian Express, Union Minister Mahesh Sharma, Sardana Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Sangeet Som and others negotiated the compromise. Sisodia was allegedly a part of the mob that had dragged out and lynched Mohammad Akhlaq from his house in Dadri's Bishada village on September 28, 2015, on the suspicion of killing a calf and eating beef.

Sisodia's family had alleged his was a custodial death, and had demanded Rs 1 crore as compensation, a Central Bureau of Investigation inquiry into his death, action against the alleged errant jail authorities, and the arrest of lynching victim Mohammad Akhlaq’s brother Jaan Mohammad on charges of cow slaughter. Senior Superintendent of Police Dharmendra Singh, however, told the Times of India that the family’s demand to arrest Jaan Mohammad could not be fulfilled right now. "The matter is still under investigation," he said.

However, the administration has agreed to a proposal for an 11-member panel of residents monitoring the police investigation into the charges of cow slaughter against Mohammad and a compensation of Rs 25 lakh, The Indian Express reported. The Uttar Pradesh administration has agreed to recommend a CBI inquiry on the condition that the family submits a written request for the probe.

Gautam Budh Nagar District Magistrate NP Singh said, “I have promised to look after the education of his [Sisodia's] one-year-old daughter. We will ensure that his wife receives education and employment.”

Protests in Dadri have been on from October 1, when the women whose relatives were arrested in connection with the lynching case demanded that Jaan Mohammad be arrested for allegedly slaughtering a cow.
