Cricket: Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane put India on driver's seat at end of Day 2 of Indore Test
The duo's 365-run partnership helped India post 557/5 declared.
India finished with a handsome lead of 529 at the end of Day 2 of the third Test in Indore. Skipper Virat Kohli (211) and Ajinkya Rahane's (188) mammoth 365-run partnership helped India to 557/5 before they declared the innings. New Zealand finished at 28/0 at the close of play.
Kohli became the first Indian Test captain to post two double centuries, ending his poor return with the bat in this series in style. Rahane put up his best performance, and the duo rotated the strike regularly, punishing the bad balls to unsettle the Kiwi bowlers. Off-spinner Jeetan Patel ended Kohli's stay at the crease. Rahane, who was looking set to score a double hundred, too, fell to pacer Trent Boult, 12 runs shy of the mark.
The in-form Rohit Sharma, along with Ravindra Jadeja, added to New Zealand's misery late in the day, with Sharma bringing up a breezy half century before the India declared the innings.
