Saudi Arabian Prince Turki bin Saud bin Turki bin Saud Al Kabeer was executed on Tuesday for shooting a fellow citizen, state news agency SPA reported. According to a Reuters report, the Riyadh court's ruling is a rare instance of a royal family member being penalised.

The accused had pleaded guilty to killing Adel bin Suleiman bin Abdul Karim Mohaimeed in a brawl, SPA quoted the country's interior minister. While the report did not specify how the prince was executed, a majority of the executions in the country are conducted through beheading.

The official statement said, "The government is keen to keep order, stabilise security and bring about justice through implementing the rules prescribed by Allah." According to a report by the New York Times, citizens praised the court ruling and King Salman's "decisiveness".

Another rare and prominent case of a royal family member's execution was that of Faisal bin Musaid al Saud, who assassinated his uncle, King Faisal, in 1975. The royal family comprises thousands of members who receive monthly stipends. Few royal family members hold positions of power in the government.
