Intelligence alerted three states – New York, Texas and Virginia – to possible strikes.
Authorities in the United States have warned of possible terror attacks in the country around election day, November 8. Sources told CBS News that intelligence had alerted three states to possible al-Qaeda attacks – New York, Texas and Virginia. The threats have not been confirmed, but are being investigated.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation and Department of Homeland Security have issued statements saying security forces are “vigilant and well-postured to defend against attacks here in the United States”. Texas Governor Greg Abbott also issued a statement on the “Texas terror threat”. Abbot said his office was monitoring the situation and working with law enforcement officials. Mayor of New York Bill de Blasio said that he has been aware of the threats “for several days” and had been briefed on it.
US authorities have also warned that Russia, whom they believe were connected to hacks on political organisations including the Democratic National Committee, may interfere with the polls, The Washington Post reported.
