Golf: India's Aditi Ashok becomes first Indian to win Ladies European Tour
The 18-year-old was one stroke clear of her competitors Brittany Lincicome from USA and Belen Mozo from Spain.
Aditi Ashok has made history as the first Indian golfer to win the Ladies European Tour by winning the Women’s Indian Open at the DLF Golf and Country Club in Gurugram on Sunday, ESPN reported. Ashok had a two-strike overnight lead and shot a level par 72 shot in the final round, making her one stroke clear of her competitors Brittany Lincicome from USA and Belen Mozo from Spain. Lincicome and Mozo tied at second position.
The 18-year-old needed a birdie (scoring term) or better on the final hole to avoid a three-way tie. She managed to bag a 13th birdie of the tournament on the par-5 18th. The win gives Ashok an edge in the competition for the Rookie of the Year award, PTI reported.
Other Indian golfers competing in the event included Vani Kapoor, who finished with an overall score of 9-over 225. Amandeep Drall, Diksha Dagar and Gaurika Bishnoi also finished tied-34, tied-44 and tied-55 respectively.
