A curfew has been imposed in Vidisha, Madhya Pradesh, after a man’s murder, allegedly by members of another community, led to arson and stone pelting, PTI reported on Sunday. Officials said an old enmity was the motive for the murder. At least three people were injured in the violence that broke out when the deceased’s body was being taken home after postmortem.

Kotwal police personnel said that three houses were set ablaze in the violence, the news agency reported. Collector Anil Suchari said, “Curfew was imposed in the city limits of the district at around 12.15 in the afternoon.” Officials have asked residents to remain indoors.

Earlier in the day, the district administration had imposed Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code, which restricts the assembly of more than four people in an area. On November 11, the police had arrested 13 people in connection with the murder.

Vidisha is the Lok Sabha constituency of Union External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj.
