Dalit couple, their son shot dead in Haryana's Sonepat, police say it was an honour killing
A woman from the dominant Jat community had married into the family, and her brother is believed to have carried out the murders.
Three members of a Dalit family have been shot dead in Haryana’s Sonepat district, in what police say is a case of “honour killing”. One of the victims, Pradeep, 27, was married to a woman named Sushila from the dominant Jat community, officials said, and her family had opposed the match.
On Friday night, Sushila’s brother Manu allegedly arrived at the family’s home in Kharkhoda, killing Pradeep and his parents, and leaving a pregnant Sushila and her brother-in-law Suraj injured. The police said Manu has more than a dozen criminal cases to his name. He is believed to have arrived at the Dalit family’s house in a stolen SUV.
Sushila gave birth while being treated at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences in Rohtak. The victims’ bodies have been sent for post-mortem examinations.
