Cricket: India 12 runs shy of England after Day 2 of third Test
R Ashwin, Virat Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara scored half centuries to help India post 271 for 6 at stumps.
India ended Day 2 of the third against England in Mohali at 271 for six. India had bowled out England for 283 earlier in the morning.
Ravichandran Ashwin once again proved his worth as a batsman with a gritty half century to help India get back on track after they had lost half the side with 156 on the board. Ashwin has been a man in form with the both the ball and bat in this series. With Virat Kohli at the other end, Ashwin batted confidently. Even after Kohli’s departure for 62, he kept going as fellow spinner Ravindra Jadeja (31 not out) joined him in the middle. The two added 67 runs for the seventh wicket.
Adil Rashid was the standout performer for England with three wickets. He got England its key breakthrough as Cheteshwar Pujara skied one just moments after tea. Pujara’s dismissal on 51 broke a 75-run stand between him and Kohli.
He also sent back Parthiv Patel (42) and Ajinkya Rahane (0). Karun Nair failed to impress on debut after being runout for four. All-rounder Ben Stokes partnered Rashid in the bowling department with two wickets, which included Murali Vijay (12) and Kohli.
