Jammu and Kashmir: Security forces exchange fire with militants in Handwara’s Langate village
The encounter began at dawn after the Army was tipped off about the presence of infiltrators in the area.
Security forces have been engaged in a gunfight with militants in Jammu and Kashmir’s Handwara district since dawn on Monday. The encounter is under way in the Langate area, where two militants are believed to be holed up in a building, NDTV reported.
The Indian Army was tipped off about the presence of the militants in the North Kashmir village, after which the region was cordoned off and a search operation was launched.
Instances of such encounters have risen since the Indian Army conducted surgical strikes on terror launchpads along the Line of Control with Pakistan. Cases of cross-border firing, too, have increased, with both countries blaming the other for violating the ceasefire along the border.
