India and Qatar sign agreements to ease visa norms, step up cyber security cooperation
External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Vikas Swarup said that four deals and an MoU were signed between the two countries.
India and Qatar on Saturday signed a bunch of agreements during a bilateral meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Qatari counterpart Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani in Delhi. After the meeting, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson confirmed that four deals have been signed on visas, cyberspace and investments. Al Thani is on a two-day visit to India. He reached the Capital on Friday.
With the new pacts between the two countries, holders of diplomatic, special and official passports can travel between the countries without a visa. Moreover, the countries also signed a letter of intent that provides the provision of negotiation on an agreement on e-visa to businesspersons and tourists.
Among other things, Delhi and Doha decided to step up technical cooperation in cyber space and measures against cyber crime. The Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy of Qatar and the Confederation of Indian Industry signed a Memorandum of Understanding that will provide a framework for project experts for Indian companies in Qatar, including through participation in infrastructure projects in Qatar undertaken for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Swarup said another MoU has also been signed for more collaboration and exchange between the countries in the field of national ports management.
