Police arrested the prime accused in the shooting of a dancer at a wedding in Bathinda on the outskirts of a suburban town in the district, The Indian Express reported on Monday. Lucky Goyal, a local Shiromani Akali Dal leader, was apprehended by a police officer in Maur Mandi. The remaining three accused in the case were also arrested, with Lucky and Sanjay Goyal being charged with murder.
The other two accused, Jasgir Singh and Narinder Kumar, were charged with disobeying orders given by officials. They were later released on bail. Deputy Superintendent of Police for Maur Davinder Singh said Lucky will be produced in court on Tuesday. “As the weapons belonged to Sanjay, even he was booked on murder charges...the girl died with the one which was used by Lucky”.
Kulwinder Kaur, who was in her twenties, was shot in the stomach while she was performing on stage. She was part of a dance troupe from Bathinda that was performing at the wedding. The police had identified the suspects with the help of a video clip. Bathinda Senior Superintendent of Police Swapan Sharma said that the accused were under the influence of alcohol.
Kulwinder’s husband Harjinder Singh alleged that Lucky had shot her when she refused to dance with him. Her husband had also claimed she was three months pregnant, but the doctor who conducted the autopsy has denied this.
