Demonetisation: Rs 500 notes to be accepted at toll plazas on national highways till December 15
Toll fees can also be paid with debit and credit cards, and through e-payment gateways.
All toll fees along National Highways can be paid using debit and credit cards, e-payment gateways, and, up to December 15, demonetised Rs 500 notes will be accepted as well. The currency notes were rendered illegal tender on November 8. The home ministry on Monday also asked states to deploy security forces at such toll plazas to prevent any violence.
Sources in the transport ministry said the demonetised Rs 500 currency notes will be accepted for fees above Rs 200 and for buying fastags, ANI reported. Toll plazas were closed till December 2 following the demonetisation announcement.
The move to demonetise Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes sparked a huge controversy, as the Centre has received immense flak for the decision. The issue has caused both Houses of Parliament to come to a standstill, while former prime minister Manmohan Singh had called the move “a monumental management failure”, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had said that it was a “draconian decision”.
