There will be an earthquake if I speak about demonetisation in Parliament, says Rahul Gandhi
A BJP spokesperson ridiculed the remark, accusing the Congress of being the ‘epicentre of scams for 60 years’.
Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi on Friday said there would be an earthquake if he was allowed to speak on demonetisation in Parliament. “I want to say that [Narendra] Modi, in the whole of India, has indulged in the biggest scam. I want to talk about that,” said Gandhi, who is reportedly ready with his speech on the currency ban.
“The prime minister is giving speeches across the country but is afraid of coming to the Lok Sabha and is not willing to sit there,” Gandhi said, according to Hindustan Times. He made the statement after the Congress said in that Lok Sabha that the party was willing to debate on demonetisation. The Lower House was adjourned till December 14, after another day of ruckus that followed the government demanding an apology from the Opposition party for stalling Parliament proceedings.
His remarks were met with scoffs from Bharatiya Janata Party leaders. Union minister Venkaiah Naidu said, “May this quake happen when we are not present in Parliament,” while BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra tweeted, “Those who were the epicentre of scams for the last 60 years talk about ‘earthquakes’ today. Rahul Gandhi is to be reminded that he is best known for political ‘quackery’, not quakes.”
