Pakistan will not succeed in dividing India along religious lines, says Rajnath Singh
The home minister said it because of Indian Muslims that the Islamic State group has not been able to gain grounds in the country.
Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday said Pakistan was trying to divide India on religious lines, reported PTI. “We were divided in 1947 on religious basis. We have not been able to forget that,” said Singh as addressed a martyrs’ day function in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district.
The home minister added that India is committed to taking along everybody and move ahead on the path of development. “All Indians are brothers, whether they are born from the womb of a Hindu mother or a Muslim mother.” Singh added that it only in India that one can find 72 sects of Islam living together peacefully. Singh said it was because of Indian Muslims that the Islamic State group has not been able to gain grounds in the country. “[The] ISIS has not been able to spread its roots in India and the credit for this goes to the Muslims of the country, the followers of Islam,” he said.
Singh further added that India will extend its cooperation to Pakistan to fight terrorism. “If Pakistan is serious about eradicating terrorism but is incapable of doing that and wants cooperation, we are ready to help it eradicate terrorism from there,” the home minister said.
However, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi said that the home minister and his “boss”, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, were also doing the same as Pakistan. “Yes Rajnath Singhji Pakistan is trying to divide India along religious lines; has it struck you that you & your boss have been doing the same?” Gandhi tweeted on Sunday.
