Court fines Ramdev's Patanjali Ayurved Rs 11 lakh for misleading advertisements
The company sold certain products with its label although those were manufactured somewhere else.
An additional district magistrate court in Haridwar has fined yoga guru Ramdev’s Patanjali Ayurved Rs 11 lakh for “misbranding and putting up misleading advertisements” of their products. The firm will have to pay the fine within a month, reported PTI.
ADM Lalit Narayan Mishra’s court said that five production units of Patanjali Ayurved were found guilty of misbranding after the company sold certain products with its label although they were manufactured somewhere else. The local court was hearing a case filed the District Food Safety Department in November 2012.
The court also asked the District Food Safety Department to initiate action against the company if the quality of the products were not improved, reported The Times of India. The case was filed after Patanjali’s mustard oil, salt, pineapple jam, besan and honey failed quality tests. The products were found to be in violation of Sections 52-53 of the Food Security Act and Section 23.1 (5) of the Food Safety and Standard (packaging and labelling regulation) Act.
“The case went on for four years and on December 1, the ADM court asked Patanjali Ayurved to pay Rs 11 lakh as fine for indulging in misbranding and misleading advertising,” Haridwar Food Safety Officer Yogendra Pandey, under whom the samples were taken and sent for tests, told The Hindu.
