Hockey: India beat Spain 2-1 to enter semi-final of Junior World Cup
Harmanpreet Singh and Simranjeet Singh scored for the hosts late in the game.
India managed to overcome a dogged display from the Spaniards to prevail 2-1 in the quarter-final at Lucknow on Thursday.
Spain took the lead in the game from a rebound attempt from a penalty corner by Marc Serrahima. India leveled scores through a scrappy attempt of their own with Simranjeet Singh netting from close range. The winner came four minutes to the end of the game from an unstoppable shot from Harmanpreet Singh off a penalty corner.
Despite the hosts creating a number of chances, Spanish goalkeeper Albert Perez helped his side protect the lead by thwarting every attempt that came his way. India’s fine display in the second half of the game helped them breach a staunch Perez. India will face Australia on December 16th in the semi-final of the tournament.
