Bengaluru molestation: Police arrest another suspect in Kammanahalli groping case
So far, six suspects have been taken into custody since two men were caught on video accosting a woman on New Year’s Eve.
Another arrest was made in connection with the case of molestation in Bengaluru’s Kammanahalli locality on New Year’s Eve. Police took the sixth suspect into custody on Monday, according to ANI.
On January 4, a video had surfaced where two scooter-borne men were seen groping and assaulting a woman when she was walking down an empty street in Kammanahalli on New Year’s Eve. It was reported the next day that the men, who had been stalking the woman for a while, had interacted with her on several occasions. The two main accused, Ayappa and Lenin, were arrested on January 5.
Police had earlier said that the woman, who is from Northeast India, had been hesitant to file a complaint, but she identified the accused later. Bengaluru Police Commissioner Praveen Sood had said that they had registered a suo motu case against the accused after watching the video because they were convinced “beyond all possible doubt that this was a heinous crime”, reported PTI.
In the video, two men on a scooter are seen stopping a few feet away from the woman as she is walking down the street. The pillion then gets off the vehicle and gropes her while she tries to wrest herself away from him. The rider, too, molests her, after which she is thrown to the ground as they ride away on their two-wheeler.
The assault was captured on a CCTV camera fitted at a house on the same street. The resident had shared the footage on Facebook as well as with the media and police. This assault was reported soon after news of a mass molestation in the city on New Year’s Eve surfaced.
