The Bharatiya Janata Party has trained its guns at the Shiv Sena after the two parties parted their ways before Maharashtra’s municipal elections. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday levelled corruption charges against Shiv Sena President Uddhav Thackeray, asking him to disclose his wealth. “I am in politics since last 25 years but my wealth hasn’t increased... Those who live in glass houses should not throw stones on others houses,” Fadnavis said during a poll rally in Sasinaka, adding that Thackeray has only got richer with time.

Fadnavis also alleged that the Shiv Sena worked against workers’ interests in the Cambata Aviation matter. Cambata Aviation was the country’s oldest private ground handler and abruptly shut shop in Mumbai and Delhi last year, leaving over 1,000 employees without jobs. “Even today, that company pays money to 22 shakha pramukhs of the Sena,” he said, according to The Indian Express. Earlier, BJP MP Kirit Somaiya had also asked Thackeray to disclose his assets.

The BJP has also asked the Election Commission to enforce a ban on publishing Saamana, the Shiv Sena’s mouthpiece, on polling day. Party leader Shweta Shalini said the newspaper’s Aurangabad edition had carried advertisements even after the model code of conduct was in place, reported India Today.

Thackeray, however, said that such a demand was equivalent to Emergency. “If they want to ban Saamana, they should also shut the mouth of the chief minister and prime minister,” he said during a rally in Pune.

While the 15 zilla parishads will go to polls on February 16, the municipal elections will be held on February 20 and 21. The results of the civic polls will be declared on February 23.
